Haverhill Town Administrator Resigns

According to comments and published reports from town officials, after a meeting with the Haverhill Select Board, Galinat was notified that he was being placed on administrative leave with pay. A short time later, on the evening of August 4, 2026, a board letter was delivered to Galinat's home in Peacham, Vermont, notifying him of the administrative leave.

The next morning, Galinat submitted his official letter of resignation to the board. He followed the contract's terms, giving 30 days' notice to continue his pay and allowances until the day his service to the town ends.

Vermont Fish And Wildlife Working To Bring Bear Population Into Sync With Habitat

It was once unusual to see a bear but now they seem to be everywhere.  People regularly compare stories of bears on their property or encountered in places bears should not be.

Vermont’s black bear population is estimated at 7,500 to 8,900 bears based on 2025 data, the most recent available, according to the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife.  This marks the fifth consecutive year that the bear population estimate is above the state’s objective of 3,500 to 5,500 bears.

 She walked with the family dog, Simba, like so many times before, but Fifteen felt little interest in the trees and waving grasses, or the calling of birds and hum of insects. The woods and fields had become invisible, and she moved through it all without touching or being touched. Simba disappeared in the tall grass, and vanished from sight and mind until there was a surprising flash of orange-red.

This fearsome oddity came to be known as "Old Slipperyskin." The creature was said to resemble a huge bear, but unlike any known bear, it always walked upright, on its hind legs. It was said to have a mean disposition, and sometimes sought revenge against individuals who had offended it.
