Check It Out: Fairlee Public Library’s Spring Season
Hannah Young
April 02, 2026
The spring season is off to a magical start at the Fairlee Public Library. We celebrated the beginning of March with a Fairy Tale Tea Party, attended by all manner of fairies, princesses, mermaids, unicorns, and other fantastical creatures. We made flower crowns out of pipe cleaners, built castles out of blocks, read fairy tales, ate tiny treats and drank dainty drinks fit for even the most delicate of fairy fingers, and even got to learn how to do some magic tricks. Overall there were about fifty five people in attendance, and it made for an absolutely wonderful afternoon.

On the first official day of spring, the library hosted a Paint Along at the town hall which was attended, coincidentally, also by fifty five people. The children’s session involved painting some adorable pink piglets with spring flowers in their mouths. The adults, prompted to paint sunflowers, each came up with their own unique composition using their own personal painting style. It was a wonderful evening spent celebrating community and creativity.

Coming up in April, the Fairlee Public Library and Fairlee Community Arts will be hosting a special storytime in celebration of Earth Day on Saturday, April 25th, from 10:30 to 11:30. We will provide some tasty snacks and do some Earth Day-themed activities as well as listen to some stories. All are welcome!

In other news, the after school program continues every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:30 to 4:30. As a reminder, on Tuesdays we craft and play table-top games; on Wednesdays we craft while listening to a chapter book being read aloud; and on Fridays we build Legos.

Please see our website and Facebook page for details and the most up-to-date information about our upcoming and ongoing programs and events.

As an additional note, April is National Poetry month, which we will be celebrating with some book displays and activities. Our neighbors up the road in Bradford are hosting their annual Poem Town event, featuring poems by writers from all over the Upper Valley. If you get the chance, we hope you take some time to walk the sidewalks of Bradford to read their poems and to witness the creativity that abounds in our little corner of the world.

Thank you to all our patrons, volunteers, and supporters for your enthusiasm, joy, and continued support of the library. You are all very much appreciated. Happy spring!

Hannah Young is the assistant librarian at Fairlee Public Library in Fairlee, Vermont.
