Susan "Sue" Jane Williams
2025-08-21
Susan “Sue” Jane Williams, 75, passed away on July 30, 2025, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on June 27, 1950, at Woodsville Cottage Hospital to Robert L. and Virginia (Hunt) Williams. Susan attended a four-room schoolhouse at South Ryegate Elementary School and graduated from Woodsville High School Class of 1969. She went on to attend the Thompson School for Practical Nurses, where she received her LPN in 1971.

Susan began her nursing career at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT. In 1972, she and her best friend, Darlene, moved to Phoenix, AZ, where she worked at Phoenix General Hospital. She later returned home and completed her career at Cottage Hospital as an ER nurse. She retired in 2006 after 30 years at Cottage Hospital, a place she considered her second family. Susan cherished her coworkers and formed many lifelong friendships during her time there.

As Alzheimer’s progressed, Susan moved into the Grafton County Nursing Home, first in the Meadow Ward and eventually in the Profile Ward.

She was known for her deep care for family and friends, often bringing fresh-baked cookies and cakes when visiting. She enjoyed canoeing, backroad adventures, and singing or whistling along to oldies. A passionate animal lover, she filled her Hooper Hill Road homestead in Groton with horses, dogs, and cats.

Susan was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Mary Barr (1971) and Claude Barr (1973); maternal grandparents, Ray Hunt (1956) and Ethel Hunt (1968); her parents, Robert Williams (1972) and Virginia Williams (2010); and her nephew, Mike R. Williams (2006).

She is survived by her sister, Joyce White, and husband Stuart; her twin brother, Bob Williams, and wife Darlene; nieces and nephews, Tim, Ben, Josh, Joe, and Dana; several great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

Memorial contributions in Susan’s name may be made to the Mikey Williams Alumni Soccer Memorial Fund, c/o David Robinson, 95 Stonecrest Drive, Haverhill, NH. 03765
