Russell David Carson

NEWBURY-Russell David Carson, 82, of Newbury, Vermont, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at the Grafton County Nursing Home.
He was born on October 18, 1941, in Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of Harold andAlice(Hollingsworth) Carson. Russell moved with his family to Newbury in 1959 after purchasing the property that would later become Harkdale Farms, Inc., where he built his life and livelihood.
A graduate of Bradford Academy in Bradford, Vermont, Russell continued his education at the Thompson School of Applied Science at the University of New Hampshire. On June 8, 1963, he married Mary (Kimball)Carson in Concord, New Hampshire. Together, they made their home inNewbury and shared 58 years of marriage until Mary's passing in June 2021.
Russell owned and operated Harkdale Farms for more than six decades,semi-retiring in 2020. A steadfast member of the community, he served as a commissioner on the Newbury Water Commission and was a longtime member of the school boards for both Newbury Elementary School and Oxbow High School.
He is lovingly remembered by his children:
– Daughter Barbara (Lee)McInnis of Opelika, Alabama, and their daughters Bonnie and Colleen;
– Son Scott (Kristen) Carson of New Lebanon, New York, and their children Kayla andKeegan;
– Son Steven (Vicky) Carson of Newbury, Vermont, and their children Timothy, Emily, Seth, and Abagail.
Russell also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Adrian and Ellie, and his brother, Kenneth Carson of Corinth, Vermont.
He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, farming, and community. His legacy will live on through the land he loved and the family he nurtured.
A private service will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donationsinRussell’s memory may be made to Eastern States Exposition Jersey Show.
