Joan and Bernard Churchill were married on June 16, 1956. They operated a family dairy farm for over 50 years in Peacham. Joan was predeceased by husband Bernard (June 4, 1932 - Nov. 28, 2020). Together they raised five children: Kathy Bradley (partner Steve) of Peacham; Sarah Crane (James) of Attleboro, Mass.; Bernadine Harvey (Howard) of Ticonderoga, N.Y.; Mary Churchill Broome of St. Johnsbury; Robert Churchill (Pam) of Pike, N.H.
Joan was active in raising her grandson, Jonathan Churchill; it was a role in which she took great pride. Jonathan raised two boys; Jonathan Jr. (JD) and Jacob on the family property allowing Bernard and Joan to experience being a part of their daily lives, which they both treasured. Joan’s family extends to many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Joan was proud to know her great-grandson JD (with Avery Withers) will be the 9th generation to live in the same home where she raised her family. Joan cherished Peacham and her Peacham property. She loved her flower beds, some of which contain plants over 100 years old that started and exist from past generations. She enjoyed watching the cows and the company of her pets. She loved the Peacham Library where she was well-known for putting many puzzles together. She looked forward to Friday morning coffee with friends and lunch at the Peacham Cafe. She spent hours discussing Peacham history with many interested inquirers. Joan was always up for a spontaneous road trip to an unknown destination.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug. 22, 2025 which would have been Joan’s 89th birthday. We invite friends and family to join us at the Peacham Library noon to 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. You will be welcomed and encouraged to share how you met Joan, read poetry or simply enjoy jokes and laughs while we remember this wonderful woman.
Joan - wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor to many - you will be greatly missed and remembered by all.
We wish you rest in eternal peace.
