Born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on October 2, 1934, to Elwin and Theodia (Darling) Snow, Ray’s life was defined by a profound sense of duty. He served his country with distinction in the United States Navy for over 20 years. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Ray retired as a Chief Boatswain's Mate (E-7). His courageous service earned him several of the nation's high honors, including the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the Gallantry Cross.
Following his military retirement, Ray brought his trade skills to White Bros. Construction for several years, and then to Northeast Glass, where he worked as an installer and fabricator for over 20 years before retiring in the mid-1990s.
Ray was a pillar of fraternal and veteran organizations, known for his leadership and commitment to his fellow service members. He held officer roles at both the local and state levels within the Free Masons, the Elks, and the Moose Lodge. A dedicated member of the American Legion Ross Wood Post 20, he also served with pride as the Past Commander for VFW Post 793.
Ray and Gayle were married in 1984, sharing nearly 40 years of adventure. They were avid travelers and campers who cherished their winters spent together in Florida. At home, Ray enjoyed the Vermont winters as a member of the VAST Snow Machine Club.
He is survived by his children, Wanda Hubbard and her husband Richard of Lyman, NH, and Gary Santy and his wife Robin of Georgia, VT; two sisters, Sandra Arsenault and Georgiana Butler; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be funeral at Ricker Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Woodsville, on Wednesday February 18, 2026, at 11AM. Burial will take place in the spring on Friday May 22, 2026, at the North Monroe Cemetery at 10 AM. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Grafton County Nursing Home for their kindness and care.
