Jean L Sulham, 88, Ascutney, VT, passed peacefully at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH, on Sunday, June 21, 2026, after a period of failing health. She was born on the family farm on Tucker Mountain in Newbury, VT to Stanley and Dorothy (King) Oliver on September 5, 1937. She graduated from Bradford Academy in 1955 and went on to hairdressing school. She owned and operated Jean’s Clip and Curl in Wells River until her marriage to Homer Sulham on March 15, 1969, at the Wells River Congregational Church.
Jean and Homer moved to Alexandria, VA, for work shortly after their marriage, where their daughter Kimberly was born. The family returned to VT after a couple of years and settled in Ascutney in 1973. She worked several jobs throughout the years, including a clerk at the USPS, a waitress, and in various retail settings. She enjoyed vacations with her family, reading, and will most be remembered for her beautiful flower gardens.
Jean is predeceased by her parents, three sisters, Eleanor Gendron, Shirley Sickels, and Agnes Renfrew. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Homer Sulham, of Ascutney, VT, a daughter, Kimberly Lochelt and her husband Ronald of Airway Heights, WA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 9 AM at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT.
