Homer Lee May
October 30, 2025
Homer Lee May, Jr., 87, of Haverhill, NH, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, at the Grafton County Nursing Home. He was born to Lizzie Miller May and Homer Lee May, Sr., on May 2, 1938, in Newport, Arkansas. Homer attended Newport, Arkansas, schools and then went on to the University of Arkansas, where he graduated in 1963 with a degree in speech and language.
During his college summers, he worked in New Jersey, where he met Barbara Jane Bunting. They were married in 1961, and upon graduation from college, they moved to Holmdel, New Jersey, where they had four children. He worked in New York City on Madison Avenue in advertising sales for McCall’s Magazine and Family Weekly.
Barbara wanted to leave the city and gave him an ultimatum, and in 1974, they moved to Haverhill, New Hampshire, where he started his own publications for the Chambers of Commerce of Littleton and Barre, Vermont.
During the dawn of Apple, he decided to learn everything he could about computers and programming. He spent many years building websites and repairing home computers. Homer also volunteered for the Haverhill Corner Fire Department and coached Little League for the town. His love for town politics led him to become a member of the Haverhill Zoning Board. He also enjoyed fishing, going to the grandchildren’s sporting events, and supporting the Boston Red Sox. He loved fried food and could make a mean fried chicken.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Barbara and their four children; Hilary Bumgarner and husband Kevin of Portland, Oregon, Melanie May of Andover, New Hampshire, David May and wife Kristen (Hatch) of North Haverhill, New Hampshire, Christopher May and wife Veronica (Smith) of Paducah, Kentucky, brother Michael May and wife Cindy of Arizona, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Thank you to the Grafton County Nursing Home for their exceptional care. There will be a private family service at a later date.
