Darrick Albert Lucas was born September 29, 1986 to Harold and Sue Lucas in Milford, CT, but spent most of his childhood years growing up in Woodsville, NH. He was a connector and wildly creative spirit who moved through life with a sense of wonder and an enduring quest for enlightenment. A talented musician and natural teacher, he was continuing his studies at CSUB, nearing the completion of his music teaching certification—a goal he pursued with characteristic determination and heart.
Life’s journey carried Darrick across the globe where he immersed himself in poker, Buddhism, musical experience, political activism and most recently curated a fondness for vintage collectibles. Yet, for all his adventures, Darrick’s truest joy was found in the simple act of connection—time spent with family, laughter shared, walking his beloved pups, playing music, and the daily, earnest effort to be the very best husband and father he could be.
Cherished within the music community, Darrick was loved by many for his boundless enthusiasm and bright, creative energy. He possessed a spirited curiosity and a joyful inclination toward song—whether in impromptu sing-alongs, playful musical puns, or moments of levity that lifted any room. He loved exploring the world through music and wanted to help others experience the joy and complexity of music.
Darrick is lovingly survived by his wife, Jenny Bard, and their young son, Theodore; his parents, Harold and Sue Lucas; his siblings Stacey and Flint; along with a circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and chosen family who were fortunate to share in his life.
A memorial service will be held on April 11 at California State Bakersfield to honor and celebrate Darrick’s life, with an additional East Coast gathering to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to support Darrick’s family may find more information at (https://www.giveinkind.com/inkinds/Z1V0Z2V).
In keeping with Darrick’s spirit, you are warmly encouraged to pick up an instrument, try something new, and step courageously beyond your comfort zone. Above all, carry forward his legacy by offering kindness, connection, and a bit of joyful music wherever you go.
