This Spring, the new Municipal offices opened in the beautiful old Town Hall building directly across from the Library. This has been a long process, but well worth the wait. For 15 years Barnet has known that we need new offices as the old ones were inadequate; our vault was too small and our Selectboard office was not accessible. The old Town Hall ticked all the boxes our community survey indicated as important to the people in town: in a village, revitalization of an old building, within our cash means, and something that represented the character of Barnet. As a place that hosted generations of 8th grade graduations, basketball games, dances, plays and Town Meetings, the Town Hall was perfect.
Harvey’s Lake Beach is finally open! We know folks from around the area have been looking forward to swimming here in Barnet. We have been closed since last July but thanks to the hard work of our Beach Committee, Lake Harvey Association, support from the Town and donations from many supporters, we welcome you all back. The beach house is open 8:30am to 6pm daily. The fee for ages 5-64 is $4/day or $60 for a season pass. Happy swimming!
Community soccer is back for the summer! Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 we get together for friendly, fun and everyone-welcome soccer. The only thing required is a positive and inclusive attitude to all the players. We have players 5-55 playing regularly at the Barnet Town soccer field next to the school.
The Barnet Public Library has a lot of new things going on. We have started a seed library for which we are growing our own garden in the front yard. We would love seed donations in the fall. This new seed library and garden are part of a new program the library is trying out. We are calling it One Foot Forward and are so excited about it. We are focusing on resilience and how to strengthen our community. We have added how-to books, food saving programs, and a library of things that includes musical instruments, a screen and projector, snowshoes, pop-up tents and more. We have added mobile shelving in our kids room to allow for more community programs and have some big things in the wings. Last weekend we held a bike tune-up pop-up for folks in the area. Our bikesmith was kept busy for 3 hours! Summer Reading is just getting going here and on August 5th at 4:30 at and in partnership with the McIndoe Falls Community Center we are hosting a one-person full circus show with Andrew Silver featuring magic, juggling, comedy, and tons of audience participation for all ages! Everyone Welcome.
