Piermont Trunk or Treat: a scary deal, indeed!

Piermont, NH – Down on the lower level of the playground and sports field at the rear of the Piermont Village School, there is normally a lovely view across the meadowlands to the west, with a clear view of the hills of Vermont. Although the peak foliage has passed by a couple of weeks, it is a nice expanse of farmland and forest. BUT on the night of Halloween for the past three years or so, creative forces have taken to creating some mighty interesting haunts to entertain the kiddies who visit there with their hand out, hoping for a peanut butter and chocolate goodie, fresh apple, or other type of All Hallows Eve reward. Over the past three or four years, I've seen some really interesting and attractive sets built around the trunk of a car or the bed of a pickup. Each year the displays have grown more and more; this year, it was a dark, cold special night on Saturday last, and the creators outdid themselves. The whole showing, placed along the edge of what is, by daylight, a youth soccer field at the rear of the school, was lit on Halloween night by two smallish, streetlight-like halogen devices that emitted just the right kind of light to add to the intense displays built up around the field. And with the timing always just right for everyone to see and admire the beautiful sunsets in the west, and it was no different last Saturday night, a spooktacular sunset sort of hung in there, illuminating the scene for a long while. What a great venue for a Halloween gathering. The time set by Trunk or Treat leader, Kim Smith, was for everyone to be ready with their trunks and treats to open the show at 5:30 and have the program wrapped up at 7 PM, time enough for all the kiddies, parents, friends, and fellow ghouls to make their rounds and socialize with neighbors. There were 13 complete setups there, all adorned with interesting costumes and lighting, tunes, and some great acting all around the circuit of Trunkers that had assembled for a night of fun and treats.
