“Sweater weather is better together.” (source unknown)
October is National Depression Awareness Month.* With colder temperatures and shorter days, many people find themselves struggling with their mental health. Feeling bored, isolated and alone can increase those struggles. Ways to improve your mental well being include learning new skills, starting new hobbies, spending time with friends and building new connections to your community. Visiting a library is a great place to start! Baldwin Memorial Library offers a variety of events and activities for people of all ages. So grab your sweater, and come on in.
Here’s a look at some of our upcoming opportunities:
Friday, October 24, 5-7pm: Meet the Author with Thaddeus Robinson – Join us for the launch of 3 new books from this local author who has quickly become a household favorite!
Monday, October 27, 10am: Community Coffee Hour – We provide the coffee, you create the conversations. Grab your friends and neighbors and join us.
Friday, October 31, 4-7pm: Tween/Teen Halloween Movie Night – We will serve up pizza, snacks and spooky vibes. Tweens and teens are welcome to join us with or without costumes for a frightfully fun night.
Wednesday, November 5, 3pm: Afternoon Tea – Like coffee hour, but later in the day. We’ll put the kettle on and offer a variety of tea. You bring the company and conversations.
Saturday, November 15 12-3: Junior Makers Market: VENDORS WANTED! Tweens and teens, are you crafty and creative? You’re invited to sign up for a space within the library to sell homemade/handmade items. Space is limited and offered for free on a first come, first served basis.
Wednesday, November 19, 4-6pm: Family Game Night – In honor of National Play Monopoly Day, we will be hosting a family game night. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
Monday, November 24, 10-5: Mellow Monday: School may be closed, but the library will be open. Come hang out for a while! Enjoy a cup of coffee and a quiet conversation, start a puzzle or craft project, and borrow a board game and a book (or 5?) to keep the family happy and entertained over the holiday.
November 26-29: CLOSED for Thanksgiving

(*Depression looks different for everyone, but is typically referred to as “persistent sadness” that strongly affects a person's daily life. Depression is a serious medical condition, and anyone who is facing difficulties with their mental health is encouraged to reach out to a medical professional.)
