Dear Editor,

To all in the government,
Please, please bring back our humanity, our kindness.
We were once proud of the hope we brought to the world, our generosity, our reliability, our caring.
We used to respect each other, to understand that although our approaches were different, we all wanted what was best for our country.
The president never told us that he despised us.
We worked together for the good of all.
We didn’t have the illusion that we alone knew what was best for our country and our world.
We cared for our planet and remembered the generations yet to come.
We welcomed all people and rejoiced in diversity.
We did not have to be ashamed of selfish cruelties perpetuated in our names.
