On Friday night December 12, 2025, Rivendell Academy hosted White River Valley School in a Girls’ Division III early-season game. White River Valley (WRV) finished the regular season last year with a 20-4 record and, at one point, ran off a 13-game winning streak. They lost to Peoples Academy in the quarter finals. Rivendell finished last season with an 8-19 record and lost to Long Trail in the quarterfinal. White River Valley entered the contest with a 1-0 record after defeating BMU on Tuesday night.

Rivendell started strong with their underclassmen, Grace Bourn and Lilly Murray setting the pace and leading their offense. At the end of the first quarter, Rivendell had the lead 12-5. The Wildcats seemed to struggle with Rivendell's pesky man-to-man defense. Lilly Murray and Lily Nelson both had three-pointers in the first period to set the pace as Grace Bourn dished out three assists. White River Valley began to hit its stride late in the second period after being down by ten points, and by halftime, the Wildcats had a narrow one-point lead with a score of 22-21. The Wildcats came out of the locker room on fire by executing the adjustments that long-time head coach Gordon Barnaby made at the half. Rivendell went cold in the third, not scoring for the first five minutes and forty-five seconds. Rivendell was outscored 17-7, and by the end of the quarter, the Wildcats had taken a comfortable lead, 39-28. The fourth quarter was played pretty evenly, and the final score was 46-34 for a White River Valley victory. High scorers for the local Raptors were Sophomore Lilly Murray with ten points and Lily Nelson, off the bench, with eight points.

On the New Hampshire side of the river, the Woodsville girls have begun their season under new head coach Jamie Walker with a win versus Pittsburg on Tuesday night (12/9). High scorers for the Engineers were Makayla Walker with 16 points and Katie Houston with 11. The Lady Engineers are now 2-0 on the season.

If you love high school basketball, there is no better place to be than right here in the North Country. Games to watch next week include the BMU girls at Oxbow on Tuesday night, 12/16, the BMU boys at Rivendell on Wednesday, 12/17, and the Thetford boys at Oxbow on Thursday, 12/18. All this action can be heard on WYKR 101.3 FM.
