Rivendell played the role of Cinderella as they upset Mount Saint Joseph’s in the quarter finals to punch their ticket to the auditorium. They faced the number three-ranked West Rutland in the semi-finals. Points were hard to come by for both teams. Rivendell got into some early foul trouble and relied on its bench to step up. At the half, West Rutland had the lead 20-11. Rivendell just kept being pesky and hanging close enough so it was uncomfortable for the Golden Hordes. When the buzzer sounded at the end of three, it was 26-18 West Rutland. Rivendell made a run in the fourth, led by Grace Bourn and Lilly Murray, and pulled it to within one point. West Rutland slowed the ball down enough to kill the clock, and it ended the Cinderella season for Rivendell as they lost 34-31. This team starts two juniors, two sophomores, and an eighth grader. We can look forward to them putting another championship run together next year.
The Danville boys basketball team put on a clinic in their first round of the playoffs. Every member of the team contributed to the scoring as they defeated Proctor by a score of 91-35. Landon Fournier was spot on from beyond the arc as he hit seven three-pointers and finished with a total of 27 points. Sebastian Eldred balanced both his inside game and his outside finesse, finishing with 21 points. Alijah Andrews was a workhorse on the boards, finishing with a double-double, 12 points, and as many rebounds. Danville will travel to West Rutland for the quarter finals.
In the girls’ Division III semi-final, Oxbow played Windsor. Oxbow was ranked third in the division, and Windsor ranked second. Both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net early on. By the end of the first, it was Windsor who had built a double-digit lead, 16-6. Oxbow just could not recover from that early deficit against Windsor's smothering man-to-man defense. By the half, it was 29-11, and from there Windsor coasted to a 64-44 win. Oxbow’s Abby Longto and Makaenna Houston did their best to spark a comeback, scoring 18 and 13 points, respectively.
With just the Danville boys still in the playoff picture, this 2025/26 basketball season draws to an end. Next week, we will be previewing our first all-underclassman all-star crew, a dream team of local players we can look forward to watching in the upcoming years.
