As the midseason approaches, it is a good time to assess how our local teams are performing compared to those in their division around the state. These statistics are taken from the Vermont Principals website and the NHIAA website for Woodsville. Please note that they are current as of Monday, January 12th, and games played after that date may impact these rankings. In New Hampshire, the Lady Engineers are ranked 9th in Division 4 with a 5-3 record. The boys are ranked 15th with a 4-5 record. Rival Littleton girls are ranked 9th at 5-3, and the boys are ranked 3rd in Division 4 with a 6-1 record. Across the river in Vermont, the Oxbow girls are ranked 5th in Division 3 with a 6-2 record. In Division 4, the Rivendell girls hold the highest seed in the area, ranking 8th with a 2-4 record, followed by BMU in 10th place at 2-3, and Danville in 12th with a 2-6 record. In Vermont boys basketball, Division 3 Oxbow is ranked 6th in the state with a 4-2 record. In Division 4, locally Rivendell has the highest ranking at 9th with a 3-2 record, Danville is 10th with a 3-3 record, and BMU is 15th with a 0-6 record.
Of course, it is still early, and these rankings will change as we work our way towards playoffs, but it is a good marker to keep track of to see if our local teams will be hosting playoff games or traveling for the first round of playoffs. Playoffs start at the end of February, so we will revisit at the end of the month.
Congratulations to Ryan Walker for scoring his 1000th point last week. He joined an elite group of Engineers as he became just the eighth player in Engineer history to do so. Ryan needed 17 points before the Gorham game. He had a monster of a night, scoring 38 points total. Walker almost single-handedly defeated Gorham as the Engineers defeated Gorham 59-42.
Another week of highlights, hard work, and hustle wraps up Inside the Huddle. Appreciation goes out to Walker Motor Sales—your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram dealership at walkermotor.net.
