Last week, all of our local teams were in action. Tuesday night saw the Oxbow girls take on Blue Mountain Union, Wednesday the Blue Mountain boys took on Rivendell, and Thursday had the Oxbow boys hosting Thetford. This early-season action was both entertaining and competitive. Here’s your local basketball round-up with recent scores, standout performances, and upcoming games from around the North Country.

Tuesday night saw the BMU girls traveling down I-91 to take on the Olympians. The Lady Olympians were led by their hot shooting guard, Braylee Phelps. Phelps led all scorers with 24 points, including 18 points from beyond the arc. The Oxbow team was impressive on the offensive boards as well from the charity stripe, where they went 10 for 11. The Blue Mountain girls had some impressive runs despite being out-sized and out-manned. Ava Kingsbury had a strong second-half showing, finishing with fourteen points. Blue Mountain now has a 1-1 record, and Oxbow is starting the season 1-0.

Wednesday night’s featured game was between the Bucks of BMU and the Rivendell boys. The Raptors came out victorious with a 39-31 victory. BMU showed signs of good basketball, proving they are capable, but in the end, the more experienced Raptors prevailed. Blue Mountain had balanced scoring from its five starters, but its bench saw little time, and only Dylan LaCasse came off the bench to contribute a single bucket. BMU’s high scorer was Jamal Saibou with six. Rivendell got contributions from seven different players, most notably Evan Woodward, who had a double-double. He finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Bryce Gilman joined Woodward with double-digit scoring, finishing with 10 points.

On Thursday night, the Oxbow boys hosted Thetford in the most exhilarating game of the week. Thetford held the lead for most of the contest, except for a brief time in the second quarter where Oxbow made a run and took a two-point lead. Then again, they took the lead midway through the fourth quarter and built on that lead. Sam Parken, for Thetford, gave a solid performance, scoring 11 points and pulling down 8 rebounds. Kobin Ellsworth led the scoring parade for Oxbow with 18 points. Sophomore Colin Chase came off the bench for the Olympians, as they got into some foul trouble early in the game, and played some key minutes. He played some stellar defense, contributing eight points and eight rebounds. With the loss, Thetford falls to 0-2 on the season, while Oxbow improves to 1-2.
