This week’s highlighted games include Woodsville versus Profile for both the boys and girls, and Blue Mountain versus Danville girls. The Woodsville girls (11-4) hosted Profile (3-12) on senior night. The five starting seniors gave a dominating performance. Eyrleigh Hambrick, Makayla Walker, Jill Roy, Katie Houston, and Morgan Crocker had a halftime lead of 49-11. From there, they coasted to the win, improving their record to 12-4 as they work to have a home playoff game. Makayla Walker led all scorers with 19 points, closely followed by Katie Houston with 18.
The boys' game was a hard-fought battle, which went into overtime as the hometown Engineers gave Profile all they could handle. Seniors Ryan Walker, Gavin Lakin, Riley Emmerton, Leon Alcala, and Cowan Kimball started the game. The game went back and forth all night, and at halftime, Profile had a narrow 27-25 lead. Lead changes highlighted the second half; when the final buzzer went off, they were all knotted up at 47 points. With about two minutes left in the four-minute overtime, Profile took a five-point lead off two three-pointers from Profile ace Daryion Faustin. Woodsville was unable to counter and took a heartbreaking loss (55-48). Woodsville’s Senior Ryan Walker finished the night with 27 points.
In a long-standing Division IV rivalry, the Blue Mountain girls’ team traveled to Danville. The Chrissy Perry rotating trophy, which is sponsored by the Masonic Temple, was at stake. With Danville ranked 10th and BMU ranked 11th, on paper this looked to be a good game. At the end of the first half BMU had a narrow 22-26 lead. Blue Mountain outscored Danville in the third 12-6 and when the quarter ended the Bucks had a ten-point lead 28-38. Danville made a good push in the fourth but at the final buzzer BMU had a 41-48 victory. Ava Kingsbury finished the game with 27 points and 7 rebounds for Blue Mountain.
