A Spring Update from Groton Free Public Library

February 26, 2026
Here at the Groton Free Public Library, we’ve got a few good things brewing this spring—some new opportunities for young people, a couple of excellent book club picks, and a few community happenings to keep on your radar.

First up: a brand-new afterschool program we’re really excited about. It Takes a Village meets on Thursdays from 3:00–4:30 PM and is open to all youth ages 10+, no matter where (or whether) they’re enrolled in school. The goal is simple and big at the same time: we’ll gather with members of our local community to explore the question, “What makes up a good life?” From there, we’ll build skills, connections, and confidence—so young people can shape their own visions for their lives and for the community they’re part of.

The program is FREE, meets weekly through June 11, and will include walking-distance field trips and guest speakers. Registration is required—you can sign up at the library or email grotonlibraryvt@gmail.com. This program is supported in part by Vermont Humanities (the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities). You can learn more at www.vermonthumanities.org.

For our readers: the Groton Library Book Club meets monthly on the second Wednesday, and our next gathering is Wednesday, March 11 at 5:00 PM. March’s selection is Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell, and April’s is Trust by Hernan Diaz. If you’d like to join in, stop by the library to pick up your copy—and come as you are (whether you’re a page-marker, a note-taker, or a “read it the night before” type).

We’ve also heard there’s interest in a Writer’s Meet Up. If you’d like to help us get one going—whether you write stories, poems, essays, letters, or anything in between—please reach out at grotonlibraryvt@gmail.com. A simple “yes, I’m interested” is perfect.

And one more date to circle early: A Day in Our Village 2026 is scheduled for June 27, 2026. If you’re interested in volunteering and helping with the event, we’d love to hear from you—email grotonlibraryvt@gmail.com.
