The Groton Free Public Library, in collaboration with the Parent Child Center at Northeast Kingdom Community Action, hosts a weekly Storytime and Playgroup at the Library. This program is designed for ages 0-6, though we welcome participation from kids of all ages.
Storytime supports social and emotional development, communication, concentration and early literacy skills.
Sing along while Ms. Sarah plays classic children’s songs and rhymes on her guitar! Our program incorporates music and movement. Songs and rhymes teach new words, and help children make associations between words and things- like the classic “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes.” Songs and rhymes also help kids hear the small sounds in words by slowing down language, which helps kids practice sounding out words while learning to read. We always include songs with numbers to practice our counting skills!
We end storytime by singing the Alphabet Song, and then move to the playroom! Wes Robertson, from Northeast Kingdom Community Action, leads our weekly playgroup with themed activities and crafts. Join us and become a part of a fantastic community of supportive caregivers.
