Thank you to all who participated in the program, visited the library, and/or donated to or sponsored any of the programs and events that we hosted this summer.
We closed out our summer season with a visit from the Arts Bus and the Green House Pizza food truck. Our young patrons enjoyed doing Color Our World themed arts and crafts in the school-bus-turned-art-classroom and families enjoyed pizza and lawn games under our new 20x40 tent, kindly purchased by the Friends of the Library, and then subsequently paid for by a
grant from the Lake Morey Protective Association. Thanks to an army of library volunteers, we were able to set up the tent the night before the event when it arrived on our doorstep unexpectedly early! We plan to put this tent up at the beginning of next summer and leave it up for all of our events throughout the season. No longer will we have to work around the obstacle
of not having shade or shelter in the case of high temperatures or rain!
We also used the tent during our Summer Reading Wrap-Up Pizza Party, during which we announced the winners of the reading challenge, handed out prizes, served pizza under our gazebo, and signed permission slips for stuffed animals that later spent the night at the library. Thanks to a donation from
Hannaford’s, our patrons also enjoyed a vegetable platter and a fruit platter at the party.
Now that the summer season is coming to a close and back-to-school is on everyone’s minds, the Fairlee Library is resuming its regular post-summer programming as well as introducing some new things. Storytime and crafting will continue every Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30, with an additional storytime every Saturday, also from 10:30 to 11:30, for those who can’t make it during the week. The theme will be the same, but the books will be different. The library will also be hosting a crafternoon for adults and teens every Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30.
Starting in September, the library will be hosting activities after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30. Tuesdays will feature a craft (guidance, instruction, and materials provided) and/or board games and puzzles. On Wednesday there will be a read-aloud from a chapter book, with one chunk or chapter being read every week. And on Fridays, Legos in the Library returns! Those who choose to participate may display their lego
creations in the library for a whole week before the next lego club meeting. Please note that children eight years old and younger must be adequately supervised and chaperoned when in the library by a parent, guardian, or caregiver. Please refer to our policies page on our website or give us a call if you have questions.
It’s shaping up to be a wonderful late summer/early autumn season at the library. Check our facebook page and our weekly event flyers that we hang in the library for updates and more details about upcoming events and programs. Thank you, as always, for supporting your local library. We hope to see you soon!
Hannah Young is the assistant librarian at Fairlee Public Library in Fairlee, Vermont.
