THE EASTER BUNNY RETURNED ONCE AGAIN TO DROP EGGS IN THE AREA!

The weather on Saturday, April 4, 2026, was cool and raw enough to pretty much discourage any Easter Bunny from venturing outside to visit families during this busy time of year. But those families and youngsters who came to the Haverhill Common on that day were treated to another successful Easter Egg Drop from high in the sky with assistance from the Woodsville Fire Department crew and their 100-foot tower truck and, of course, the Easter Bunny Rabbit.

The Haverhill Parks and Recreation Commission has been organizing this fun activity for at least the last eight years, and I am told it has been going on for many years before that. That information from the Easter Bunny's on-scene helper, Sherri Sargent, who is also the director of the Haverhill Recreation Commission and a long-time town events icon for the past 16 years or more.

Sherri remembers that before the egg drops from the fire department tower on either the Haverhill Common or at Railroad Park in Woodsville, there were also Easter Egg hunts at the Robert E. Clifford Building in Woodsville.

The egg drop routine for kids under 5 allows them to chase the eggs at 10 AM, and kids over 5 can do the same at their drop-off at 11 AM.

After the huge bins of eggs are dumped from the ladder extended about 30 feet off the ground, the kids scramble around, gather as many eggs as they want in their own baskets, then venture over to long tables loaded with Easter-type gifts, where they exchange their captured eggs for a gift.

There are other family activities on the Common as well, such as kids decorating cookies or having family photos taken with the roaming Easter Bunny.

I believe I have photographed every egg drop event held on the Common and at Railroad Park. The weather has never been spring-like, always a bit blustery, but the families show up and eagerly participate in these events.

Sherri said it is all possible with the help of the dedicated crew of volunteers who always show up, and together they make the show, families have a good time, and they pack away the eggs and gifts for the next appearance a year away.
