What Comes Around, Goes Around
Tina Gilson

“What comes around, goes around.” This is a well-known saying that most of us have heard in one iteration or another. The general idea is that whatever you do to others, whatever kind of energy and intention you put out, it will return to you. Many believe it does so at an amplified level.

Like you, I have had people lie about me, mistreat me, and try to create problems in my life. Admittedly, there was a time I would have a strong desire for the person(s) who wronged me to suffer the consequences of that. Having done a lot of shadow work and healing of my own personal wounds over many years, I no longer have any interest in that. I simply remove myself from them and the situations and go about my life.

The healing journey I took helped me get to this place, and it is profoundly more peaceful than the fiery, justice seeking state I used to exist in. People choose to believe what they want to, and I let them. People who do things to hurt me without trying to correct it are removed from my life. I do not hex or curse or take any sort of intentional action to negatively impact their life in return. I don’t need to.

In each instance I have been through, these people have had to deal with the consequences of their actions in one way or another without any intervention on my end. Those who engage in deceitful, harmful, selfish ways will eventually have their comeuppance. I’ve seen offenders' romantic relationships fall apart, friendships get damaged, businesses fail, finances suffer and more. Their energy, intentions and actions returned to them.

The reason behind sharing this is layered. First, healing and finding peace within yourself, getting to a place where you let go of the ugliness of others without care, is a blessing you deserve to give yourself. If they have true remorse, they will come to you and work on repairing the damage. Being comfortable in who you are and knowing your truth is invaluable.

Second, there isn’t satisfaction to be found in seeking retribution. Even if you find it, it usually is not terribly fulfilling. This is because your underlying wounds are still there, they have not been treated and you often find you don’t feel terribly good about yourself because of the actions you took. Depending on your actions, others may look at you poorly as well.

Lastly, the universe will take care of balancing the scales without your assistance. A bad landlord will lose rental income. The person who lies about others will have their reputation damaged. The person who doesn’t care about your feelings will have others not care about theirs.

I would encourage you to focus on the kind of person you want to be. Let others' consequences catch up with them when the time is right. Trust in divine timing and the lessons each of us have to learn on our own.
