Christmas Week In Basketball
Robin Wozny
January 01, 2026
Christmas week in basketball and through every gym not a creature was resting because there are big games to begin. Our teams are getting early season presents in the form of big play from their underclassmen. Oxbow freshman Margaret Williams, at around six feet tall, has certainly given Oxbow some positive minutes. Eighth grader Grace Bourn of Rivendell has made her way to a varsity starting position and is already making a positive impact. Sophomores Natalie Burroughs and Addison Murray are showing lots of growth for the BMU girls. For the BMU boys another sophomore has stepped into a starting position and is making an impact, that sophomore is Brody Scott. These underclassmen certainly have stood out early in this 2025/26 season.

On Saturday (12/20), the featured game was between the Oxbow boys and the Bears from Danville. Spectators got their money’s worth in this game that went into overtime. Oxbow led throughout most of the game. At the end of the first quarter, Oxbow led 17-9. Oxbow showed their range as four different Oxbow players hit jumpers from beyond the arc. Jayden Huntoon was the only Oxbow player to score in the second quarter, but his six points was enough to send them into the half up 23-17. Oxbow came out cold in the third, just as Danville began to heat up and the first lead change of the game had the quarter ending with the Bears in the lead 37-32. Bears forward Elijah Andrews led all scorers that quarter with eight points. When the Olympians outscored Danville 12-7 and the buzzer went off the game was all knotted up at 39. The Olympians outlasted Danville in the overtime period to get the win 52-45. High scorers were Landon Fournier for Danville with 18 and Jayden Huntoon for Oxbow with 21.

Tuesday (12/23) there was another barn burner involving Danville, the Bears hosted the boys from Twinfield-Cabot. Danville had their way in the first half and built a thirteen-point half-time lead. Twinfield-Cabot pressed throughout the game but Danville handled the pressure well. Landon Fournier and Alijah Andrews showed poise and leadership as they handled the ball for Danville. Twinfield-Cabot came out of the locker room focused, they outscored the Bears in the third 17-11 and cut into Danville's lead. Twinfield-Cabot continued the pressure and Omar Misic-Knibb got hot from behind the arc, hitting three and another from the charity stripe for ten points in the quarter. At one point, Twinfield-Cabot took a five-point lead briefly. Sebastian Eldred had a big game scoring twenty-three points and bringing down six rebounds. Elijah Andrews sealed the game with 11 seconds left by getting an offensive rebound and put back to put the Bears up by four points. And that was the way the contest ended, with Danville walking away with the win 52-48.

These contests were exciting to watch. It’s unusual to see such good basketball this early in the season. Next week’s featured games will be between the Oxbow Lady Olympians and Thetford on Friday January 2. On January 3rd the Bucks will travel to Woodsville to play the Engineers in boys basketball.

Happy Holidays,
Woz
