Fall is always busy here in Barnet. With the changing colors on the trees, the backroad drives are beautiful and brilliant. Everyone is busy tossing split wood into their basement bulkheads, covering tomatoes and basil to stretch the harvest just a little longer, attending soccer games and planning Fall Foliage events. The library is always so happy to welcome back our afterschool kids that arrive, tired and giddy, by school bus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for some wind-down time, playtime, and snacks. We are so lucky here in Vermont to alter our speed and chores with the seasons.

October 3rd is our Fall Foliage Day. We have events around town open to all. The Barnet Library, Quick Stop, Post Offices and Town Clerk’s office have maps and flyers, The full list is on our town website barnetvt.org. Our Foliage committee and hosts put a lot of effort into these offerings and love visitors! Highlights: Historic Goodwillie House, Ben’s Mill, European Coffee Hour, and the Meetinghouse quilt show. The Barnet Library will be open 10-2.

October 4th from 10-1 is Ben’s Mill annual Ducky Race fundraiser. The mill will be open for tours and a food truck, music and cider pressing make it a fun day for everyone. www.bensmill.com . Oct. 4th is also a Foliage Fall Fair in West Barnet from 10-2 with a craft fair, local musicians, food, and more.

Starting October 7, we have a knowledgeable local resident teaching a Home Herbalism class (to sign up : emma@tend-gardens.com), we have our winter classes starting (see barnetpubliclibrary.com for more information), and finally our once-a-month Waffle Wednesdays are back on October 15! Waffle Wednesdays are one of our favorite programs. Kids help mix and cook and eat their weight in waffles. Open to everyone. 3:30-5.

October 12 we are excited to welcome Play Every Town with David Feurzeig to Barnet! We are holding the piano concert at the Barnet Elementary School. It is free and open to the public. David is playing with local musicians Sue Persson, Eve Ryan, and Jackie Verley. Each concert is tailored to the town playing songs that reflect the town's heritage, history and character.

The Barnet Library is committed to providing access to books, services, information, technology help, community connection, printing, scanning, and mostly, to someone that will listen to what the community needs and to try and help. The library offers many opportunities to learn new things and to get to know your neighbors. We have Game Day every Sunday from 2-5pm. People come to teach grandchildren cribbage, play cards with friends, or just simply to visit without having to move piles of unfolded laundry off their couch and just use ours.

Libraries are so much more than books today, but who can resist a good read? We have mysteries, sagas, sci-fi, great kids books, Young Adult dystopian page turners and laugh-out-loud non-fiction. We have old favorites and brand new bestsellers. Come check us out!
