The Lowdown from Barnet Library

Summer is still in full swing here in Barnet. The days are beautifully warm and long and the farmstands are spilling over with garden bounty. The library seed garden is growing in leaps and bounds and the veggies seem almost excited to grow seeds for our new seed library here.
There is still time for summer reading submissions for all ages. We do a Reading Bingo for adults as well as punch cards and choose your own adventures for younger readers. Our prize bucket is still overflowing with fun so bring your completed items in until August 23!
Last week Andrew Silver performed his one-man Silver Circus for us under the beautiful maple canopy on the McIndoes Academy lawn. He brought laughs and gasps from the audience as he wowed us with an inverted tightrope walk, balanced a ladder on his chin and even juggled knives! We hope to have him back for a circus workshop and community performance next summer. Thanks to McIndoes Academy Community Center and the Vermont Department of Libraries for helping bring this exciting programming to our little corner of the world.
The Barnet Library has added hours to accommodate some more things we want to offer the area. Tuesday evenings from 5-6:30 we are specifically available for computer help. We have spent more of our days lately helping folks access information they need to find online and we love to do it! Tuesday evenings are quiet right now and a great time to have our undivided attention. Come on in! Sundays from 2-5 we are hosting game days. They have been popular lately with people meeting for Pokemon, Magic the Gathering, Cribbage and more. We have many games available here or bring your own! Come gather, meet folks and play.
For the next few weeks we are playing host to Monarch Chrysalises hanging from milkweed leaves on our porch! Dr. Monarch (our friend Allison) is working hard to keep us well-stocked with bright green sparkly pods in various stages of change decorating our exterior. Come check them out!
Other Barnet happenings:
The Barnet Historical Society is holding its annual meeting and open house on August 16 at 2pm at the Goodwillie House (26 Goodwillie Road). The speaker will be local historian Beth Kanell. She will be speaking on the profound influence of immigration in 1800s Barnet and surrounding towns. Beth is a wonderfully engaging and knowledgeable historian. Bring a chair and a friend!
The McIndoes Academy Community Center has been holding their summer music series on the lawn. The upcoming event is a summer dance party with the BelAires on August 15 from 6-8 at 34 Academy Ln. These are always fun and well attended. Free and open to all. FMI: mcindoesacademy.org
