Most people experience the journey of spiritual awakening in different stages. This may include seeking, questioning, contemplation, disillusionment, surrender, and transformative insights.
Recently, I have had quite a few clients come to me wanting to discuss some experiences they have been having. While I have written about this topic before, I thought it was worth revisiting, given the increase in clients wanting to get support for this.
A spiritual awakening is unique to each individual, with varying experiences and challenges. There are many amazing and profound things that can occur in this process. Life is experienced in a new and beautiful way. That said, the new experiences and the intensity of them can prove challenging and unsettling for some people. It's important to stay grounded in practical life and relationships.
A spiritual awakening encompasses a range of profound shifts in consciousness and perception, often involving a sense of connection to something larger than oneself, and a questioning of one's current reality and beliefs. It's a journey of self-discovery, often triggered by significant life events or internal shifts, leading to increased self-awareness, compassion, and a deeper understanding of life's purpose.
Many people will experience “The Dark Night of the Soul”, a difficult time in life where we explore past traumas, painful feelings and limiting beliefs. This often leads to the dissolution of ego where we realize our true self, and the idea of who we are, are separate. We begin to rid ourselves of ego-based patterns and attachments. Our consciousness begins to shift, we feel more connection to others, the natural world &/or a higher power.

While a spiritual awakening can be related to organized religion, it is usually very distinct from it. The majority of people find that a spiritual awakening reveals universal truths that transcend specific religious doctrines. A spiritual awakening encourages individuals to develop their own personal understanding of spirituality and its meaning in their lives. This may or may not involve some kind of religious aspect.

During a spiritual awakening intuition strengthens, empathy increases, and we feel more interconnectedness. Our love and compassion for ourselves and others may become more profound. We see how we are similar more than the ways we are different.

We become more aware of synchronicities and recognize they are not just a coincidence. Our perception of reality often changes as we see the world through a different lens. This can result in a decrease in fear and anxiety, as our sense of peace and trust in the universe and life's purpose grows.

Some things you can do to help yourself during this time of transition include: practicing regular mindfulness and meditation is both calming and deepens spiritual connection and awareness. Engaging in self-reflection, re-examining your prior beliefs and assumptions can lead to profound changes. Spending time in nature supports inner-connectedness and instills peace. You may also seek support and guidance from spiritual texts or other awakened individuals you trust. Don’t fear the process, it’s well worth it.
