Upcoming Fall Programs At The Barnet Library
By Dylan Ford
Annually, the Barnet Library blinks in June and all of a sudden, it is September; kids are absent during the morning hours and come running off the bus joyful and floppy after a long, full day of friends and learning at the Barnet School.
This summer, has gone by particularly quickly with the final push of first year of our One Foot Forward Programming and, of course, the Smithsonian Exhibition. Both endeavors have resulted in record numbers of people from here and away visiting our humble little haven. This past week, the fifth through eighth grade field tripped and toured resulting in over 118 visitors in two days!
The last of SPARK! Speaker series featured Stephen Taylor, a NH Humanities Speaker who spoke to an enthusiastic audience of history buffs on the immense changes that occurred with the arrival of electricity to northern NH and VT. The event was held at the newly renovated McIndoes Community Concert Hall in the old church.
We have a few final events coming up before our Fall programming begins! For some real community fun, on Saturday,September 12th, we welcome Andrew Silver and his one-person Silver Circus back to not only perform for us, but for Circus Arts Workshops for youth ages 8-14 as well.Andrew joined us last summer to delight us with his wonder and whimsy on the McIndoes Academy lawn. This year, in case of rain, we are holding our workshops and performance at the Barnet School. If it’s nice outside, we may even get to be in the sunshine. Workshops run from 1-3, performance is at 3:30. EVERYONE WELCOME. THIS DAY IS TOTALLY FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Please register*
We are so grateful to the kiddos of Barnet and beyond in giving up their half of the library, we are welcoming them back with a Summer Reading wrap-up event on Wednesday, September 16 after school at 3pm for Dinosaur Terrariums and a celebration of some new “unearth a story" themed books and turn in your summer reading treasure maps. Kids can arrive on the bus or with an adult.
On October 1st, Beki Auclair from VT Ferments will be joining us for what she calls a Kraut Mob fermentation workshop. Beki will do a brief demonstration followed by everybody working on their own ferments with their own veggies. Participants will go home with jars of veg to monitor as it ferments. We will work in the kitchen of the McIndoes Community Church. Must register as there are supplies you need to bring with you. Register*
Fall Foliage week is just around the corner. We look forward to exploring our town and yours among the maple confetti sure to turn sooner than we think. Barnet will have events around town celebrating our bakers, quilters, and historians.
Our Winter Workshops begin in November- wreath-making, paper arts, and much more. Check our website for details.
