Summer Reading Season at Fairlee Public Library
By Hannah Young
It’s that time of year again: Summer Reading season! Readers of all ages are welcome to sign up for Fairlee Public Library’s summer reading challenge. When you sign up, you’ll be randomly assigned to one of six teams. Then, you’ll track your minutes spent reading this summer (being read to and/or listening to audiobooks count, too!) and report them to us. We will tally up the minutes at the end of the season, and the team with the most minutes read wins. Once you are signed up for the challenge, you will also earn raffle tickets that you can enter to win something from our summer reading prize collection.
The overall theme of summer reading this year is “Unearth a Story.” Here at Fairlee Public, we are celebrating this theme with a different sub-theme every week:
June 26- RECYCLE & REUSE
July 3- REPAIR & RE PURPOSE
July 10- UNDERGROUND ANIMALS
July 17- SUBTERRANEAN TRANSPORTATION
July 24- BURIED TREASURE
July 31- DINOSAUR DISCOVERY
August 7- PROTECT & PRESERVE
August 14- IN THE GARDEN
Most of our summertime events will reflect our weekly themes. We will continue to host a children’s story time and craft every Thursday and Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30. Every Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 is adult crafting hour. Some weeks we will do a themed craft and sometimes we will encourage you to bring your own projects. We will also sometimes have a guest artist lead a craft. Finally, every Friday from 3:30 to 4:30 is Family Activity Hour, where we will feature hands-on activities for all ages based on our summer reading themes. We will spend the first couple weeks of the summer working on our float that will feature in the Fairlee/Orford 4th of July parade.
Our summer reading program will come to a close with a wrap up party on Friday, August 21st. In addition to joining us for the handing out of prizes, lots of tasty treats, and games, our patrons are invited to bring their stuffed animals for a sleepover. Stuffies can then be picked up on Saturday morning during an extra special storytime where you will get to see what your fluffy friends got up to overnight.
Please see our facebook page and website for more details and the most up-to-date information regarding all of our programs and events. See you soon!
