Rainbow After The Storm
By Tina Gilson
There is a saying about how we only get rainbows if it rains—essentially reminding us that things sometimes look like their worst before becoming their best. That something beautiful can come after our personal storms. I often remind people that when a seed is planted, it must come apart before the flower can grow. That a caterpillar becomes a goopy mess in the cocoon before the butterfly emerges.
Recently, I have been seeing the destruction part in spades. One of our area’s largest employers just did away with all of their operations manager positions in an attempt to save money. A friend in Alabama messaged me and said she lost her job for the second time in approximately one year due to her company being bought out in both instances. My business just had one tenant give notice due to personal matters that were interfering with her ability to come to work.
These are all recent examples, but I believe we all can look back in our lives at times when it appeared everything was going wrong and/or we couldn’t see what positive outcomes could possibly arise from the situation. However, I believe for many of those instances, we did have a suitable replacement, if not something better, come along.
I once interviewed for a job and realized it would be a poor fit for me mid-interview. I was not offered the position, but my name was given to a program I didn’t know existed, and I became their supervising counselor for years. It was exactly what I needed at the time.
What is my point with these analogies and stories? It is important to have some perspective when we face life’s challenges, even when we are drowning in uncertainty. To have faith in God, the Universe, or simply yourself. To trust everything will work out for our greater good. Even though we may not recognize the blessing in disguise for what it is immediately, we almost certainly will with time.
My friend in Alabama is using this time to look for a job that is different than what she has been doing. It no longer serves her or is a good fit. Since God saw fit to take her out of a situation that she was meant to release, she is now exploring options that are better suited for her. She trusted things would work out somehow, had faith more than fear, and in less than 24 hours, she had a perfect new job prospect.
If we do not make changes in our lives that we need to, the universe often forces us to, and it isn’t always in a comfortable, gentle way. If you find yourself in this situation, take a deep breath and remind yourself that things always work out. You don’t need to know how, just trust that it will. I know this is easier said than done, but I do believe it all works out in the end.
