Revealed by a Shadow
By Tom Streeter
It moved all around me fluttering here and there
Somewhat circular pattern, although I couldn’t be sure
Eyes drawn to the semidarkness on the ground, realizing, then aware
Of a presence filling space above me where nothing was before
I welcomed its company and wished it would stay around
Maybe I was a curious enough creature to elicit its concern
Continued pulling weeds as my ears searched for a sound
Only rustling of drying leaves and crows calling from its silence I might learn
Of a strength to overcome gravity’s pull and the knowledge of how to fly
While being so very quiet yet appearing ever so much alive
From where had it come and did it carry with it reasons why?
For my efforts to build permanence devoting energy to endeavor and strive
Part of the human race temporal by our very nature I’m sure
Feeling as though it may have waited looking for the right time and place
Beside me on the ground it landed reflecting the sun, no longer obscure
Wings of intricate, colorful, elegant design delivered their message then left
without a trace
To find its way, brave the wind, living lightly on this earth to fulfill the dream
A piece of the woven design in our fractal universe of being
Carrying an ancient understanding into the present moment so it does seem
Eternity revealed by its shadow now looking through the eyes of the seeing
