Bath Book Club & Wrapping Up Summer Reading In Fairlee
Bath Public Library Book Club to Discuss I Have Some Questions for You
Bath, NH – The Bath Public Library Book Club will meet on Monday, September 14, at 5:00 PM at the Bath Public Library to discuss I Have Some Questions for You by award-winning author Rebecca Makkai.
I Have Some Questions for You is an investigation into collective memory and of one woman’s reckoning with her past, with a mystery at its heart. Now a successful film professor and podcaster, Bodie Kane is content to forget her past, the family tragedy that marred her adolescence, her four largely miserable years at a New Hampshire boarding school, and the murder of her former roommate, Thalia Keith, in the spring of their senior year. Though the circumstances surrounding Thalia’s death and the conviction of the school’s athletic trainer, Omar Evans, are hotly debated online, Bodie prefers to let sleeping dogs lie. But when the Granby School invites her back to teach a course, Bodie is inexorably drawn to the case, and she begins to wonder if the real killer is still out there.
Copies of the book are available to borrow at the Bath Public Library. Patrons are encouraged to pick up a copy and participate in what promises to be a thoughtful and
engaging discussion. New members are always welcome.
Library hours are Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Thursday and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. For more information, contact the Bath Public Library at 603-747-3372 or bathlibrarynh@gmail.com.
Wrapping Up Summer Reading at Fairlee Public Library
After a magnificent season of reading, the Fairlee Public Library will be wrapping up its summer reading program on Friday, August 21st. From 4:00 to 6:00 pm, we will be hosting a party in celebration of yet another wonderful summer coming to a close. We will hand out prizes to the winners of the raffle and we will award additional prizes to notable readers. We will share all the details about how much this community read over the last couple of months—do you think we will beat last year’s total of 158,943 minutes spent reading? There will be food, refreshments, lawn games, and a lot of all-around good fun. This event is free and open to all.
In addition, we encourage you to bring a stuffie with you to the party to drop off for our annual Stuffie Sleepover! Only stuffies will be remaining in the library overnight though—no children. When you drop off your friend, you will fill out a permission slip for them so that we know who they belong to. You can pick up your stuffie the next morning at Saturday storytime at 10:30 am. As part of this extra special Storytime, you will get a peek behind the scenes at everything that your stuffies got up to in the nighttime!
On a completely different note, at 6:00 pm on Friday August 28th, we will be hosting a special guest speaker to talk about local mushrooms and fungi. We will be following the talk with a screening of the documentary Fungi: The Web of Life.
Hannah Young is the assistant librarian at Fairlee Public Library in Fairlee, Vermont.
